Learning the Scherzo from ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’

Published on 9 January 2025 at 22:07

The learning process (this was the second day of practising it)

1. I learnt the notes last time (as described in my last post)

2. I watched Emily Beynon’s tutorial (https://youtu.be/s6XcBZK8fvE) and marked the music with dynamics and breathing and phrasing

3. I watched some other YouTube versions of this

4. I listened to the orchestral version whilst following the score

5. I played it through slowly all slurred several times working on tone and dynamics

6. I gradually sped it up keeping it slurred

7. I shifted to doing it double tongued but slowly and also practised starting on ‘k’ and ‘g’ to make more even articulation

8. I gradually got it faster up to speed

9. I recorded myself playing and listened back several times making adjustments as I went

10. Recorded this version and will polish it tomorrow

Again excuse the harsher close phone recording sound!
